Anonymous1: You guys needed 7 people to animate 2 scenes for 1:36 minutes of content? FIVE writers for... no story? Even after they delayed it because "the writers were doing something cool"?
Don't get me wrong, this is great quality and I want to see more, but the production size sounds way overkill compared to the work, which is underwhelming in comparison..
LordAardvark: @Anonymous: This entire project was impromptu, unscheduled, and grew without abandon. It was originally a 15-second short.
The five writers is also technically a misnomer, for two reasons: First of all, we have brainstorming sessions with all of our writers coming together and pitching in ideas. Everyone involved gets credited as a writer. With that being said, it wasn't so much "writing" in any classical sense as it was combing through hundreds of unlabelled audio and putting together the most cohesive narrative that could be done from it.
In future projects, we will not be crediting individual writers, but rather the core writing consortium (we need to think of a name for it). If someone outside that consortium provides input, they get separate credit.
The reason for the generous distribution is that we operate on a completely democratic scale. We have project leads that facilitate productive discussion, basically serving as arbiters, but effectively all decisions are made as a group effort. As such, everyone involved gets credit.
And yes, it was overkill. That's why we stopped production when we did. We were spending too much time on this project. We needed to cut it and just move onto New Virgin - we gained the experience we needed and we ironed out the process required.
And for the record, it's actually almost 2:30 of content. About 50 seconds were cut.
Rest assured that all future projects will be much more streamlined.
Nicko: @LordAardvark: Anon1 here. That would explain a lot of it, thanks for taking the time to explain.
In that case I am looking forward what new content you guys will have to offer in the future. Best of luck! :)
sacredferro: Claptrap pulling an R2D2 moment at the end had me rolling. Don't really know why, but it always did seemingly bother me that no one until now, after all this time, had did a scene where Claptrap walks in on someone and flips his shit! Now, I feel an important milestone has been made. Thanks for that, LordAardvark.
Anonymous3: @LordAardvark: Why don't you start a movie studio? never thought about it? studioFOW does some good stuff but they need competition.
Great job by the way.
