Anonymous2: Kaine being intersex is not 100% true. Human Kaine was a female and in many versions of the extended universe she stays that way. only the replicant Kaine was intersex due to a system error in the replicant system.

It's only implied in the game that she had "something wrong" (you have to beat the game once and restart from after the 5 year gap to see her backstory) from before being possessed from Tyrann, thus making her an outcast in her village, but it's clearly stated in the "Witch's Sabbath" tale from Grimoire Nier - which was obviously only pubslished in Japan - that she has both sexes. I loved the game but I kinda hated that most of its backstory wasn't appropriately exposed and left to tales and novels that are only procurable in Japan instead. If they had the courage to dwell deeper into certain aspects it would have been much better and there wouldn't be so much confusion among the people who played the game.
