I think it's just the English version where she is spelled Aerith.

SumptiousRobo: @DaRealX: I was told it was some weird Japanese/English thing, with the 's' supposed to be pronounced with a 'z' sound (like when something is pluralized) but got mixed up with the katana for 'th' (as it's outside their own language sounds, Japanese speakers substitute swap 'th' for 'z', like "Ze End") and nobody double-checked during translation.
